The Colombian government is offering a COP300 million ($150,000) reward for information leading to the capture of those responsible for the car bomb attack that killed nine and injured 51 in the Pacific coast city of Buenaventura on Wednesday.
Defense Minister Gabriel Silva visited the city after the attack, and received first-hand information from authorities at the scene of the explosion.
Silva said that a meeting will be convened at 9AM Thursday morning with national and regional authorities to advance the investigation into who is responsible for the attack.
While the authorities have repeatedly mentioned guerrilla group the FARC as a possible suspect, Prosecutor General Guillermo Mendoza Diago said that drug traffickers could be the perpetrators.
Mendoza noted that the attack could be revenge for the recent capture of a drug lord known as “Narices,” as it affected members of the national police and the Technical Investigation Team (a branch of the Prosecutor General’s Office), which both had a role in the arrest.
