Bogota officials have announced security plans for Paul McCartney’s Thursday night show that include the presence of 1,400 troops, local media reported Wednesday.
As more than 30,000 people are scheduled to attend the musical event, police have constructed a plan to put forces on all pedestrian walkways, around the entrance and all street corners within a five block radius of the stadium.
There will also be two large posts made up of government officials from the transportation, health and environmental sectors as well as members of Bogota’s fire and police departments. The Ministry of Health has also set up specialized medical units.
In light of recent heavy rains plaguing the capital city, city councilman Venus Albeiro Silva has sent a letter to Bogota mayor Gustavo Petro asking him to suspend the concert in an effort to protect the stadium’s turf, according to Colombian newspaper El Espectador.
In the letter the council points out that rainfall has increased 100% over the past few days creating “a situation that would damage the turf and drainage of the stadium if no new preventative measures are taken during the McCartney concert.”
Despite these grievances, there has been no indication from the city government that the show will be canceled.
Public entrance to the stands will begin at 3 PM while admittance to the lawn will start at 4 PM. A live broadcast of the concert begins at 7:30PM on Canal Capital 2 Telmex, 116 Telmex Premium, 107 UNE and 633 DirecTV.
