German airliner Lufthansa will establish 14 round-trip flights between Bogota and Frankfurt per month to satisfy increasing cargo and passengers demand between the two countries, reports la Republica.

The new flights, which Lufthansa announced will begin in October of this year, comes as a result of a deal made by Colombian and German aeronautic authorities.
Commenting on the new, trans-Atlantic flights, Germany’s ambassador to Bogota, Jurgen Christian Mertens, said that Colombia is a “strategic partner in Latin America” for Germany, and that “the benefits [of these flights] are very clear.”
Colombian airliner Avianca suspended its direct flights to Frankfurt in 2001, and the German airliner followed suit in 2002 with flights to Bogota.
The plans for new flight between Colombia and Germany were originally announced after Singapore Airlines recently signed a similar treaty two weeks ago. It is also expected that Avianca will resume flights to Germany as well.
