The prosecutor general’s office on Tuesday announced that more than 138,000 acres of land formerly belonging to Colombia’s largest left-wing rebel group was expropriated in 2012.
The deputy prosecutor general, Jorge Fernando Perdomo, said that the land was registered under the name of dead FARC front-man Dario Polania Ortegon and the names of his associates, and was valued at approximately $5.5 million. Fernando referred to Polania as “one of the greatest front-men in the history of the guerrillas.”
According to Fernando, the territory is located in the departments of Huila, Caqueta and Meta, and was often used as a camping ground for the FARC’s Eastern Bloc.
Meanwhile, since March 2012 the prosecutor general’s office has seized over $520 million worth of property and money formerly in the possession of narcotraffickers.
