Colombian police have rescued a 13-year-old girl from kidnappers in Itagui, in the department of Antioquia, on Friday, Caracol Radio reported Friday.
The girl was kidnapped Sunday June 5, when her family was leaving a family party in the town of Samaria Robles Aburra Sur, Itagui, a municipality on the southern outskirts of Medellin.
General Yesid Vasquez, the commander of the Medellin metropolitan police, said that a cousin of the family, who was working with the kidnappers, lured the girl into a car. The car was then apparently intercepted by a group of three men in another car, who took the girl by force to an unknown location.
The kidnappers made approximately ten phone calls to the family between June 6 and 7, according to Vasquez. They are said to have demanded an exorbitant sum initially, before later dropping the ransom to $5,000.
Police apprehended the four kidnappers, whose ages range from 18-19 years old, in a Medellin airport on June 10.
Among the items confiscated from the kidnappers were a toy gun, cellphones, and a notebook detailing the possessions of the victim’s family.
