12,000 Colombians who were victims of the 45-year old violent
conflict will receive reparation for their suffering before the end of
the year, a high government official said Monday.
According to Eduardo Pizarro, director of the Nacional Committee of Reparation and Reconsiliation, the government earmarked 12 billion pesos (US$5.6 million) to repair this group of victims.
The official told Caracol Radio that 60 percent of the recipiants are victims of paramilitary groups, 30 percent of guerrilla groups and five percent victims of state violence.
Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Sunday handed over the first cheques to victims in the southwestern Colombian city of Popayan.
