At least eleven people were injured, including three policemen, after an explosive device was launched at the headquarters in Pasto, in the south-west Colombian Nariño department, of “Uribista” presidential candidate Juan Manuel Santos.
The attack took place at 7:30 PM Tuesday.
The head of the Nariño police, William Montezuma, said that a man on a motor bike was believed to have thrown the explosive device. The injured were rushed to a local hospital.
Santos’ Pasto campaign manager, German Chamorro, said the explosion caused panic among those present, and left the headquarters and 30 surrounding buildings severely damaged.
“We are very worried that such things happen. At the time of the attack, there were seven of us in the headquarters, but during the day there are more than 40,” Chamorro said.
Santos is not believed to have been in Pasto at the time of the attack.
