Colombia News - Festival Imagen

The 10th internationally acclaimed Manizales design festival, the X Festival Internacional de la Imagen, begins Tuesday, and will run through April 16.

More than 60 national and international artists are invited to this year´s event, with nearly 100 activities planned, according to newspaper El Tiempo.

The event website calls the festival, “a space for encounter and debate in regards to themes related to visual design, electronic arts, digital audiovisual creation, digital and electroacoustic sound, and in general, the new relations between art, design, science and technology,” adding that it is the only design festival in Latin America to blend all of these elements.

Events will include presentations by speakers from the field of design, academic forums, film showings, and exhibits.

In reference to the changes the festival has seen over the years, festival director Felipe Cesar Londoño said that, “The evolution has been notable in these 14 years, given that in the first festivals the subject of audiovisuals was primitive, but today the internet and cellular phones have made an entire revolution.”

The festival will be held in the Teatro los Fundadores convention and cultural center, but in order to make the festival a city-wide event, various expositions will be held in public spaces.

The festival, which first took place in the capital of the Caldas department in 1997, is put on by the Universidad de Caldas’ visual design department.

Full information about speakers, events, and scheduling can be obtained from the official website.
