More than a hundred families were evacuated from the town of Timbiqui in Colombia’s south-west department of Cauca after FARC attacks on Sunday night, Caracol Radio reports.
The Mayor of Timbiqui Aniceto Alvarez Hurtado said that the town was attacked for 45 minutes but no civilians were killed.
FARC guerrillas opened fire at the police who where 100 yards from a park. Government secretary of Timbiqui, John Emerson Torres, said that “the park was full of people and children, when the men started shooting. We ask the illegal armed group to stop … the combat against civilians who have nothing to do with it.”
The mayor said that the families had to leave their homes because the guerrillas left explosive deceives in the town which are currently being deactivated.
The police, military and air force were present in the town after the attacks.
