Ten members of the Colombian army and two civilians have been accused of five “false positive” killings that occurred in Colombia’s south-central Guaviare department in 2005, various media reported Thursday.
Prosecutors alleged that two military officials, one sub-official, seven soldiers and two civilians captured and murdered five civilians in the department’s municipality of Miraflores and then dressed them as FARC guerrillas to present them as enemies killed in combat.
The events reportedly occurred during a February 21, 2005 battle between the Army’s 10th Mobile Brigade and the FARC in a rural zone of Miraflores.
All 12 accused face charges of homicide, kidnapping, destruction, suppression or concealment of public documents, falsifying public documents, fabrication, and trafficking and possession of firearms and ammunition intended for private use by the armed forces.
